I found a shell today
It fell from a pocket
Left there so long ago
I wonder how it feels
To have travelled
From a forgotten sea
To the beach
My hand
To a dark pocket
Sat for an unknown time
That poor shell
I should take it back
To the beach

  1. A simple, yet powerful reflection of the guilt felt by the writer in neglecting the shell in their pocket…
The guilt of recognition that, however insignificant we may appear to others, we each have experience and history which can enrich the learning of us all, and that this should never be underestimated…

  2. You should take it back. The path to salvation is a solitary one (Gnostics) but the shell is better off where it belongs, with others. It doesn’t pay to live in anyone’s pocket.
